This poster by Jan Sawka underscored a long tradition of Polish poster designers paying tribute to the community within which they developed their talents. Teatr STG in the city of Gliwice was one of those instances. With a rich history of providing a cultural oasis in the midst of a highly industrialized and gritty region, STG had a reputation for the type of architectural significance, outstanding layout and acoustics that attract high quality musical acts, dance troupes and other performing arts ensembles from throughout Poland, Europe and the world. Nearly completely destroyed by the Red Army during WWII, Theater STG was rebuilt and provided a steady stream of quality acts for Sawka and other designers to memorialize in poster. Shortly after this poster was designed, Teatr STG became a prominent part of the Kinoteatr X complex.
